W Norrie of Sleight School took third place. Mr and Mrs Wiitanen of Bessemer earned a second grade award. Kopnick couple of Bessemer received first place at 200 4th Ave. St Wakefield and Mrs Richard Vittone of Bessemer earned a second place, with third noted in incomplete text.
A lifelong Wakefield resident, Lillian Johns, widow of a former Cee Ae, lived in the community her entire life. She died on December 26, with obituary details noting family and local ties.
Paul Lesinski of Ewen has died from injuries sustained in an accident. The details indicate a fatality after the incident occurred in the local area, with authorities treating it as a death resulting from injuries. Close family members were notified and the investigation continues.

HS Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Eino Haukkala of Wake. The bride given in marriage by her father. Miss Mabel Zielinski attended as maid of honor. A reception was at the home of the bride's brother in Fox Lake. Mrs Roger Westeen and two sisters attended. The bride attended Michigan State University one year and is employed as a security guard at Millititraphis Co at Arlington Heights. She is employed at Brunning Co. DesPlanss OL They are living at Arlington Heights.
Mr and Mrs Alex Danula marked their sixtieth wedding anniversary on Oct 22 with a party for close friends and relatives. A congratulatory letter from President and Mrs Nixon was received. Hostesses Hilja Bauer Lila Danula and Laura Jarvenpaa organized the affair. the couple wed in 1912 in the Copper Country and have lived in Wakefield for about 50 years.
Local residents learn two women are expanding community service in the area. Shirley Boetto brings experience in this work and is joined by another woman identified as Cather, forming a new local effort to aid residents.
A ninth grade football team attended a game at Houghton featuring Tech-Moor head State football, with local students reporting on the experience and noting team enthusiasm.
Alex Gorski and daughter Robin of Homewood Illinois visited his sisters Celia and Marion Kas and brother John. Robert and Todd Tetzlaff returned to Pulaski Wisconsin after visiting Mrs Tetlaffs relatives. Various relatives from Madison Wakefield Concord California and Chicago were noted visiting family members and attending hospital stays. The Wakefield High School first marking period report cards were issued November 1.

The Wakefield High School Concert Band directed by Elder Pfiughoeft will give a fall concert in the high school gym at 7 30 p m Thursday Nov 2. A cornet trio featuring Mike Jarvinen Mark Zielinski Susan Barrette Lauri Maki Rich ard Brown and Debbie Aho will perform.
At a Wednesday meeting in the Legion clubrooms Mrs. Rosemary Sailer presided and the American Legion Auxiliary voted to donate to the children's Christmas candy fund sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. They agreed to monthly Gogebic Medical Care Facility games and to bring small prizes. A Nov 29 meeting date was set due to Thanksgiving eve. Leona Sailer was authorized to buy gifts for the Veterans Hospital Christmas gift shop in Iron Mountain.
Capt Gary Johnson and Mrs Pun Orn Hin Johnson returned to Minot North Dakota after visits with Frederick J Johnson family and other relatives in Wakefield. He served four months in combat in Thailand with the Strategic Air Command and sails to Minot Air Force Base. Mrs Johnson arrived October 24.
Congressman Philip Ruppe and Senator Robert Griffin announce a $106,833 federal Head Start grant from HEW to the Gogebic Ontonagon Community Action Agency. The funds support the agency's preschool training program for low income children in the two county area.
At a Wakefield Board of Education special meeting Superintendent William R. Creger outlined Proposal C a state measure on November 7 national election. The plan would replace property tax with other taxes and shift school finance decisions to state lawmakers potentially requiring up to 6 operating mills in Wakefield Township School District within six months.
Newly elected Victory Chapter No. 502 Eastern Star officers will be installed at 7 30 p m Saturday November 4 1972 at the Wakefield Masonic Temple. Worthy Matron Harold J Graves and Worthy Patron Harold J Graves lead the slate with Carl Kleimola as Associate Matron and Associate Patron. Conductress will be Mrs Richard Brown and Associate Conductress Mrs Vernon Carr. Secretary Mrs Harlan Johnson and Treasurer Mrs Raymond Walstrom round out the line. other appointees include Mrs R Falcon Mrs Robert Lawrie and others. Installing staff includes Mrs Olson and Mrs Walstrom. Hostess committee features Mrs Carr and Mrs Cox. Masons Eastern Star members friends and visitors invited.
Osiber A Yon 70 of Wakefield died Tuesday morning at Divine Infant Hospital after illness. Born June 15 1902 in Sault Ste Marie he lived in L Anse Ewen Marquette and Sandusky before moving to Wakefield in 1967. Survived by widow Ida Van Orman and Ina Rajala. six sons and 18 grandchildren. Funeral Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church Wakefield with burial at Lakeside Cemetery.
The Wakefield High School football squad visited the Ohio State Wisconsin game at Madison as guests of the Wakefield Cardinal Booster Club. Chaperones included Coaches Duane Lane and James Daniels along with John Finco Anthony Zielinski William Velin Paul Kolesar Forrest Pikka and Eugene Maki.
