Governor Comstock announces Thursday April 6 1933 as Army Day urging Michigan citizens to observe the day with flag displays and public exercises. Pat Van Wagoner of Pontiac runs for State Highway Commissioner on a platform to cut highway administrative costs and maintenance by two million dollars, reduce automobile weight taxes without changing county refunds, and pledge no new road construction until tax burdens ease. He is 35, married, a Pontiac engineer who studied at the University of Michigan and has a family active in Democratic politics.
Application filed with federal authorities in Washington seeks a conservator to manage the First National Bank during plans to reopen unrestricted. Other Minnesota banks also seek conservators this week as only 55 banks remain open in the state.
