Marenisco Debaters Lose To Manistique
The Marenisco high school debating team lost to Manistique by a two to one judges’ decision in a final elimination contest at Marquette. Manistique will travel to southern Michigan for further eliminations before the state contest in Ann Arbor. About a thousand people filled the Marquette high school auditorium to watch delegations from Marquette County, Manistique, Escanaba, and local towns. Marenisco has reached the final Upper Peninsula round two times in three years. The Marenisco team consisted of Helen Pratt, Jack McNicholas, and Bonita Gunderman, and argued in favor of the resolution that Michigan should adopt a state income tax.
