Speeding Takes 1000 Dead, Hurt Each Week
Michigan drivers face high risk as nearly one thousand are killed or injured weekly with speed a main cause. Sgt. Gerhard Carlson urges motorists to heed the campaign Speeders Lose noting speed often worsens crashes. Even without direct causation speed contributes to severity. Last year speed linked to 500 deaths and 41 000 injuries in 143 000 accidents. He warns accidents grow as do injuries and deaths and urges careful driving. When no limit exists driving faster than conditions permit is a violation. City council will consider routine matters and a water revenue bond ordinance at Monday’s meeting.
