Social Security and sick leave earnings questions answered
A reader asks if unused sick leave counts toward the $1680 earnings limit while on Social Security. The letter states that accumulated unused sick leave does not count as earnings for Social Security purposes. Sick pay from government workers usually counts as earnings, while private sick pay varies by employer. Pending legislation could raise the $1680 limit, but no change is in effect.
