Social Security offset rules for workmen's compensation
The article explains that social security benefits are generally not affected by other pensions except for workmen's compensation. If a worker under 62 becomes disabled after June 1 1965 and total benefits exceed 50 percent of average current earnings, benefits may be reduced. The average earnings are based on five consecutive years after 1950 or the single highest year after 1950, with the latter sometimes eliminating the offset after 1972. Workers must report workmen's compensation and any changes in pastments to the Social Security Administration.
