Patterson to Head Schools at Elgin Illinois

Patterson, longtime superintendent of Wakefield Township Schools in Michigan, has been chosen to lead Elgin Illinois schools. He requested release from his Wakefield contract and the board approved, effective July, to pursue the Elgin position.

Life Guards Appointed for Sunday Lake Bathers

Two life guards will begin at eight each day to protect bathers at Sunday Lake. Walter Radowski was appointed to oversee the protection program, which started with a previous test run, with June 28 set as the official start date. City officials secured another guard to assist from the lake, while telephonic communication remained unreliable and concerns over firearms at the park were noted for summer use.

Ore Stocks On Hand At Lake Superior Ports May Report

Ore stocks totaled 33,000,000 tons at the lower lake ports at the start of May, with 3,011,974 tons available for furnaces. A year earlier the same date showed 18,799,568 tons. This May only 1,711,146 tons were on hand, while 5,339 tons were noted for the prior year period. At the current consumption rate, shipments from Lake Superior could cover furnace needs for more than 20 months. Of 188 furnaces using Lake Superior ore, only 60 were active May 1, down from 188 a year earlier and 64 on April 30.

Finnish Tercentenary Parade Plans Across Ironwood Wakefield

Plans complete for a Finnish Tercentenary Sunday featuring a parade of floats and decorated cars from Ironwood to Wakefield. The procession will start at 9 a.m. and conclude at Eddy Park with a daylong program of music and talks broadcast nationwide. Local schools and bands join in, including a 60 voice mixed choir directed by Alfred Laakso of Wakefield.

Bride and Groom Wed at Finnish Church Ceremony

Miss Elsamine Kujala daughter of Mr and Mrs Jacob Kujala married John Sulo Kangas son of Mr and Mrs Gust Kangas at a Finnish Evangelical Lutheran church ceremony at eight o clock on a Wednesday. The bride wore a white velvet gown with train and veil with white larkspur. Bridesmaids Ruth Niemela and Bertha Niemi appeared in pale blue crepe and pink moire gowns respectively. A reception followed at the church parlors before the couple departed on a wedding trip to the Upper Peninsula.
