Axis peace proposal and domestic tax moves spotlighted
The article surveys Nippon diplomacy hints to avoid Atlantic trouble in exchange for a free hand in the Dutch East Indies, and U S willingness to goodwill after Japan proves it by removing war threats and withdrawing from China. It notes Congress backing for income tax returns from tax exempt groups and calls for disclosure of donors. It reports Roosevelt's troop call to restore order and hints at prisoner repatriation talks in the Middle East as Britain and Red Cross discuss large prisoner flows and propaganda risks. It also briefs on daylight saving time chatter, borax priority status by the OPM, long distance rate cuts, and Cabinet reshuffles involving Jackson and Hull.

Radowski Begins Duties as Beach Lifeguard at Eddy Park
Walter Radowski, back from Whitewater, started as lifeguard at Eddy Park beach Thursday. Officials want him ready before the swimming season, planning summer programs, life saving classes, and diving activities for children and adults, with classes to begin next week. Sunday Lake runs high from recent rains, but cold weather keeps swimmers away.
