State to auction tax delinquent lands in northern counties
About 225000 acres reverting to the state last November will be auctioned starting July 15, beginning in upper peninsula counties. Former owners have a 20 percent down payment option with 10 years to pay and retain mineral rights, while other buyers pay cash and receive no mineral rights. Minimum sale price is 25 percent of the 1939 assessed value. Revised maps of state lands in 47 northern counties are ready, with land use maps for remaining acreage in preparation.
