Critics take issue with speech purists
Sir Johnston Forbes Robertson attacks modern pronunciation fashions in London Daily Telegraph commentary. He dislikes pedants and purists, favors "often" with the T, and "again" as voiced, condemning the long vowel in "my." He defended "heard" as correct, noting Boswell’s challenge and a rule exception for "ear" that may reflect bias.
