A quotation from the Kansas City Times dated May 11 1917 argues against passive opposition to conscription. It contrasts cries over the draft with calls for a real army raised under capable leaders, urging volunteers over sentimental protest.
The Michigan club of the state university elected officers for the next school year in Ann Arbor. Chas E Anderson is president J E Somppi vice president Oliver Ringsmuth secretary George Kronberg treasurer H E Johnson corresponding secretary and EF Tocmy sergeant at arms. Plans were made for two summer dances in Ironwood and for a fall dance in September. The notice ends with a promotion for Hallmark store Triplett’s in Ironwood.
The Commercial Club arranged a seed potato program costing $3.00 per bushel for six hundred bushels delivered to the depot. The Board of Education weighed seed, Mr Kingsmuth provided a scale, and locals were notified of cost and readiness through the schools. Seed was good, planters satisfied, and Wakefield secured potatoes cheaper than neighboring towns. Get your Sunday chicken dinner at the Wakefield Hotel for 50 cents.
