Lee Richardson,... state motor vehicle division head, says 1943 license tab production is delayed by dies and tab manufacture. Michigan will issue full-year and half-year tabs using 3.6 square inches of metal to conserve steel, freeing 1,600 tons for war use. Lt Morris G Lepisto son of Mr and Mrs Victor Lepisto of big city attends the Officers Communication Course at the Infantry School Fort Benning Ga The twelve week program trains qualified Communication Officers for Infantry units and instructors in signal communication The school uses phonograph records to teach radio code a method now standard in the Army and records are distributed to service units and pre service schools The Signal Corps has adopted the school method as well.

Cards Upset Ashland Purgolders In Dodd Gym

Card inals coached by Trewyn upset the unbeaten Ashland Purgolders 41 to 35 at Ashland’s Dodd gym. The victory moves the Cards to two wins and one loss in the conference while dropping Ashland to near the pack. Bessemer beat Ironwood 40 to 33 and Hurley edged DePadua 28 to 26.

Final Tax Day Monday Ends Penalties for 1942 Taxes

Final Tax Day Monday is the last day to pay 1942 taxes without penalties. City taxpayers may settle school county and city taxes at the treasurer's office in City Hall while township taxpayers pay at treasurer Fred Drier's home. After Monday a four percent collection fee applies until March 1, when all unpaid taxes go to the county treasurer as delinquent.

The Gogebic county selective service board was certified 1-A and honored by the Wakefield American Legion post and Wakefield Rotary club for two years of unpaid service organizing draft lists. Leaders from the Legion and Rotary praised the board's dedication, with remarks on democracy, wartime duties, and upcoming classifications for married men. Kenneth Gremore, wounded airman, attended as guest. about 60 members joined a ham and pork dinner before the program.

Sugar stamp No 10 allows three pounds of sugar to January 31 with a January 15 deadline for sugar and coffee book. Stamp No 28 in sugar fuel oil coupons covers ten gallons valid to January 27. Period 3 coupons cover 11 gallons valid to February 22. No 3 gasoline stamp in basic A books good for four gallons to January 21, B and C book coupons also good for four gallons. Tires must be inspected at an authorized station by January 31 and every four months thereafter for A book.
