Military Merit Medal Awarded to Wakefield Couple
Mr and Mrs John Negro received the Military Merit Medal and the Gallantry Cross with Palm Medal from Captain Victor J Polich Jr at their Wakefield Michigan home. Their son Daniel was killed in combat on 22 June 1967 in Viet Nam, with a Viet Nam citation praising his courage and cooperation.

Smoleich Takes Over as Wakefield Electric Chief
Michael Smoleich began work as the Wakefield Electric Department head on Monday February 26, succeeding Gust Seppa. Born in Anvil and aged 42, he attended Wakefield schools, served in the Merchant Marines overseas, and worked as an electrician in various roles including AC Spark Plug in Kalamazoo and White Pine. He is married to Darlene Bierbrott of Oglesby Illinois, with two children Judy and Michael, living at 1012 E Peter Street Wakefield.
