St Marys Club Plans Surprise Bingo Event
The St Marys club will host a surprise bingo in the club rooms Thursday with prizes kept secret by the committee. Inmates at the Olcatt school in Bessemer may be moved to a temporary site due to subsidence and building concerns. Berthal Wahlberg, recently stationed in Minneapolis, spent the weekend with his parents before his transfer to the Escanaba district.

Anvil Palms Mine Resumes Operations After 1932 Idle Period
Repair of surface buildings and underground workings at the Palms Anvil mine west of Wakefield was approved by Pickands Mather for Youngstown Sheet and Tube. The mine, idle since May 1932, will recall workers as needed with production not starting until late summer. Kenneth Duncan oversees the Palms Anvil Keweenaw group.

Fewer Michigan Hunting Fatalities Reported Last Year
The 1984 85 deer and small game seasons in Michigan saw fewer hunting deaths and injuries. Seven deer season fatalities, three from accidental firearm incidents, two injuries. Small game season ends with 15 fatalities and 36 injuries. Overall, four firearms related deer deaths last year and 31 total hunter deaths across seasons in Michigan.

Silver Anniversary honoring Mr and Mrs Olejniczak
Mr and Mrs Michael Olejniczak were guests of honor at a Thursday night party marking their 25th wedding anniversary. Hundreds attended a program and dance at the Community Building after family members held a high mass at St Marys Church and breakfast at home. 96 Per Cent of Gogebic County Farms Run By Owners
The 1935 federal farm census preliminary report shows owner operators dominate Gogebic county farming at 96 percent. Of 913 farms counted January 1 1935, 822 were full owners and 62 part owners. Land, crops, and livestock totals are detailed, including 4 652 cattle, 957 cows and heifers over two, 672 horses, 322 sheep, 161 hogs and four mules.

Spearing Season Ends February Twenty Ninth

Wakefield high school football and basketball members will attend a Monday noon banquet at the Community Building. Coach Bernie Bierman, Minnesota head football coach, is principal speaker, with remarks from the high school faculty and band selections. Bierman Guided Gophers to 1934 8–0 Season and National Fame
Bernie Bierman, Minnesota’s famed football coach, built a string of strong teams from 1932 onward. His early career included Tulane success and Tulane losses in 1929 to Northwestern and the 1931 Rose Bowl. At Minnesota, Bierman led the Gophers to back to back perfect seasons in 1934 and 1935, sharing the Big Ten title with Ohio State and earning national acclaim.
