Steve Cheroff, operator of Sinclair Oil, accused city truck drivers of asking him to supply tires and equipment charged to city gasoline. Club Women Entertain at Ziggity Night in St Marys
The St Marys club hosted wives and friends at Ziggity night in the club rooms on Tuesday. Five tables of ziggity yielded wins for Mrs John Bonino over players including Charles Valesano Fred Fournier and Frank Wojciechowski. Five hundred games saw Mrs John Sopko and Mrs Thomas Wojciechowski win prizes. Milton Weaver captured the door prize as a lunch followed the card playing. The club plans monthly sessions for the balance of winter and ziggity tournaments will resume next Tuesday.

Relief Costs Dip as Case Load Rises in December
Relief declined as 3.5 percent more residents were on relief in December while total obligations for the month fell about six percent from November. Many on relief at month start returned to work in auto and related industries. Costs dropped due to reduced material purchases and equipment rentals. The State Relief Commission seeks a $5.74 million federal grant for February, down from January. December relief covered 242,750 cases or 886,105 individuals at $6.64 million in relief plus $221,574 in materials and $912,942 in rentals, totaling $7.77 million against $8.26 million in November. Ironwood Essay Contest Winners Named by Woman's Club
Rita Bodah 8th grade won first prize for essays on tuberculosis in the Ironwood Woman's Club contest. Billy Treize and Lucy Sawaski received second and third prizes. Betty Trefokies authored the top essay and will be featured on a WIMS radio broadcast. The club offered five dollar prizes to each county school for best tuberculosis essays. Proceeds from a Christmas sale totaled $952.82, with two thirds staying for chest X ray work for schoolchildren. Four local children suffered minor injuries in separate Friday and Saturday car incidents. Calin Heikila, 10, endured a scalp wound after being struck by H. L. Schieber’s car while coasting on Brotherton hill. taken to hospital. Bertha Lepisto, daughter of Mrs. Rose Lepisto, fractured her right arm after a collision with Edward Rajala’s car on Wakefield Iron hill. Rajala fined $12.95 for reckless driving. A son of Herman Schneck sustained minor injuries while coasting on Hancock street hill.

City Submits Work Program For Major Public Works
Representatives from seven upper peninsula counties met in Ishpeming to discuss Roosevelt's vast public works plan. Andrew T. Sweet of Houghton outlined that only projects aiding the largest number of unemployed would be considered from the $200,000,000 pool, urging a unified county effort behind a strong project such as round improvements.
