Funeral services for Mrs. William O Mackie 77 of Wakefield were held at First Lutheran Church with Rev Wayne Kuusisto officiating. Entombment is in Riverside Mausoleum Ironwood with spring burial planned at Lakeside Cemetery Wakefield. Donna White marked her seventh birthday Sunday with a party at her parents Grover and Mrs. White home. Guests included Susan McFarland Carol Hanson Dawn and Rusty Korpi Lynn Wanden Stuart Novak Bob Chris Heil Sarah and Erick Niemi and Kurt Jordan. Garlands games prizes gifts and a tea set cake topped the celebration.

The Wakefield Public Library moved from the second floor of City Hall to the former Laird Building on Hanbcock Street next to the Post Office and reopened Monday afternoon with new facilities. Regular hours follow a weekly schedule and special Monday hours were 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 30 to 8 30 p.m. The revamped quarters include a small entrance room and refinished reading tables with drapes to be added for a brighter, more inviting space.
The Chamber of Commerce held its monthly dinner at the American Legion Hall on River Street with Mrs. Edna Smith presiding in place of the president. Seventeen members enjoyed a Legion Auxiliary prepared dinner. New members Eldon and Mrs. Honkala of Regal Motel Wakefield were introduced.
About 30 skiers from the Gustavus Adolphus Church of St. Paul will stay over three days using First Lutheran Church as their headquarters. They will meet the Senior Youth group Saturday evening and join in Sunday English worship at 10 45 with music and readings.
The Junior Luther League of First Lutheran Church holds a Splash party Sunday meeting at 2 p.m. at the church and traveling to Circle Motel on Black River Road. Amy Creger oversees transportation and Ben Creger handles reservations. The league covers swimming costs and will pay for lunch at Circle Motel.
The Past Matrons Club of Victory Chapter Eastern Star Wakefield held a dinner at Club 28. Newly elected president Mrs. Lucille Brown presided at a brief business session. Guest Mrs. Marjorie Shelton of Marenisco attended. A social time at the Masonic Temple followed with Canasta won by Mrs. Brown and bridge prize awarded to Mrs. Kathryn Duffin.
Paula Velin from Milwaukee spent the weekend with her parents Mr and Mrs William Velin and family. Lester Martinson from Flint arrived Monday to visit his father John Martinson and friends. Alc and Mrs Roy Surprise of Tucson Arizona are parents of a daughter Melissa Ann born February 11. Mrs Surprise is Julie Keski daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Keski Wakefield.
Wakefield Woman's Club welcomed Don Pezzetti of the Gogebic County Sheriff Department for a program on The Drug Situation in Gogebic County. He showed drug samples and pipes, discussed symptoms, and answered questions. The meeting included a shoe sale fund raiser and plans for an April fashion show and luncheon.
Funeral services for Barton B. Fafford 46 Thomaston Wakefield were held Saturday at Bruns Funeral Home Mellen Wis. He died Feb 7 at Grand View Hospital after a Dec 17 admission. Born June 28 1926 in Iron Belt Wis he served in the Navy during WWII and worked as a groom in Shasta Calif before returning to Wakefield. Surviving are his father Fred Fafford sister Connie...

Gogebic County Commissioner Emil Grasso of Wakefield was named to the Executive Committee of the Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress. A fifth-year Gogebic Commissioner and retired Wakefield Post Office employee, he is active in veterans groups and local fire service.
A potluck supper for Victory Chapter Order of Eastern Star and Agegebic Lodge members and spouses will be at 6 30 p m Saturday Feb 17 in the Wakefield Masonic Temple. Carl E Kleirnola will present slides after the meal. The Feb 14 meeting discussed March card party and early April rummage sale. Hostesses were Mrs Robert Lawrie and Mrs Elmer Johnson with a Valentine buffet.
Mrs. Celeste Beber Sr. marked her 84th birthday with a Saturday afternoon party at her home for neighbors and friends. Coffee, cake, and well wishes followed by calls from daughters and grandchildren in Milwaukee and Racine. A Sunday dinner gathered her family including Joe and Barbara Beber, Bette, Tim, Virginia, Alice, and George Westlund.
Mrs Celeste Beber Sr reports the birth of a great grandson Chad Clarence on February 8 to Mr and Mrs Daryl Monty in Milwaukee. The Montys are the daughter of Lena Sutton and Beber’s family notes Chad is the 33rd great grandchild for Mrs Beber.
