Jurors for the February term include one Wakefield resident, Andrew Fortes, with one juror from Watersmeet, Wakefield, and Marenisco townships. Wakefield has one precinct. James Davis was chosen secretary of the Junior Association of Commerce at a Monday meeting to replace John Golmebeski who left for Green Bay to attend a business college. Davis has led WPA recreational activities for years. Golmebeski worked as bookkeeper at Cleon Motor Co. and is now paying for school. A. L. Road Department Plans Bids for U P Bridge and Pavement
The Road Department will call bids for construction on the U P project in Mackinee County. It includes a 641 foot bridge with a 55 foot center span and a bridge deck 147 feet above Cut River. Five and a third miles of concrete pavement north of L Anse near Baraga will be built along the bay shore. Total paving cost is about 165 000 dollars with 60 000 dollars for other work and bridge relocation of M 28 from Brimley east to US 2 near Carter.

Weber, publisher of the Cheboygan Observer and noted conservationist, is named president of the Michigan Press Association for 1941 at the 66th annual Lansing convention with under 10,000 circulation. Three Teachers Named To Replace Vacancies at End of Semester

Troopers Virgil Faircloth and Long are ordered to report to the Marquette post of the Michigan State Police for duty effective Feb. 15. Long attends a police school in East St. Louis. Draft Card Solves Age Question For Tavern Keepers
John W. Miner new Liquor Control Commission chairman pledged stricter action on Michigan licensees violating the Liquor Control Act. At a hearing with James D. Dotsch, nine of 24 cases were heard. two licensees were fined up to 500 for selling to minors. Miner tied compliance to the draft law requiring men 21 to 36 to carry registration cards. Other actions included referrals, suspensions, and a case taken under advisement.

Clarence Westlund Fatally Injured at Marathon Mill
Clarence Westlund 40 of Hurley and brother of George Westlund of the Wakefield News was killed at Marathon Paper Co mill in Ironwood when his coat sleeve tangled in a drive belt as he prepared equipment for night shift. He died before aid arrived. Final rites were held with Rev. Chester Harries officiating. Interment Riverside Cemetery Ironwood.

Marquette Men Make Forced Landing on Sunday Lake
Wakefield hosts Stanley Elder regional rep of Michigan Mutual Insurance and pilot Carl Tauch of Marquette who landed near Sunday Lake after a stopover on Lake Gogebic. Tauch wiped ice from the Tayorcraft wings to avoid a forced landing between Bergland and Wakefield. The plane was tied down near Sunday Lake Street as airport contact failed.

Dial Telephone Service Set for Wakefield in April
Michigan Bell plans to start dial service in Wakefield by mid April after weather delays. The $108,800 expansion includes new central office equipment, toll and trucking cable extensions between Ironwood Wakefield and Bessemer, and conversion of Bessemer to dial. The Wakefield exchange now serves about 470 telephones, up 45 from last year.
