Wakefield council leases building for library move

The Wakefield City Council approves a five year lease of 150 dollars monthly for a building beside the post office to serve as the new library. The Wakefield J Teens group pledges to help move books and prepare the space, with up to 20 youths volunteering.

The Wakefield Chamber of Commerce will hold a regular meeting on Wednesday February 7 at the American Legion hall on River Street. Dinner is scheduled for 6 30 pm and a good attendance is urged.

Seminar on Public Affairs and Policy at Gogebic CC

Funeral Rites Held For Mrs Odone Tosco

Funeral rites for Mrs. Odone Tosco aged 82 were conducted at Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. Joseph Kichak officiating. Entombment followed at Riverside Mausoleum in Ironwood with spring burial in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield. Attending from out of town were Adeline Bender and the Squires family from Cassopolis.

Barbara Beber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Beber, is named to Scholastica Dean's List for high scholastic attainment. She is a junior at the college.

Mrs. John J. Pezzetti Dies in Wakefield at 72

Anna Elizabeth Johnson Pezzetti died Saturday night at Divine Infant Hospital at age 72. A Wakefield lifelong resident, she attended local schools and married John J. Pezzetti in 1924. Surviving children include James and three daughters. eight grandchildren and three brothers also listed. Funeral held Tuesday at Immanuel Church with burial in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.

Immanuel Lutheran Church Choir and Classes Schedule

The Senior Choir meets tonight at 7 30 at the church for practice. Worship is Saturday at 7 pm with Holy Communion on Sunday at 10 30. Sunday School gathers at 9 am. Gogebic Range Jaycees Help Create Sunday Lake Camp

In 1972 Gogebic Ontonagon Jaycees launched Sunday Lake Summer Camp for handicapped children as a living experience. They raised funds, provided staff, and established a program through the Upper Great Lakes Human and Economic Development Association. Conred Beck praised the club’s humanitarian effort and recommended a regular camp license for 1973.

Wakefield High Sets Feb 6 7 Parent Teacher Conference Schedule

Wakefield High announces two afternoon conference sessions on February 6 and 7 for parents to meet with teachers. Sessions split by last names, with arrivals on a first come basis and limit of about five minutes per conference to allow more families to participate.

Woman's Club to Meet February at Sunset Manor

The Wakefield Woman's Club will hold a regular session on Wednesday February 7 at 730 p m in the Sunset Manor Community Room. Stewart Sandwich Program Ends at Wakefield Schools

The Stewart Sandwich Program for grades 7 through 12 will end on February 2 at Wakefield schools. Introduced on a trial basis for about three months, participation remained low and recently dropped to 30 to 40 sandwiches daily. The decision cites insufficient student interest.
