John M Ozzello and Iris Linder family members visit for holidays. Albert Linder and Ada Ozzello, Mrs Ozzello, attend gatherings with extended relatives. Students Duke at Superior, Ray Beling and Dickie Makela at Sapi?or State Teachers College arrive to spend holidays with Beling and Makela families. Several local families host relatives in Superior area and Chicago.
Yatchak's Wakefield Cardinals lose 61 36 to Ironwood Red Devils in Ironwood. Ironwood leads 30 9 at half as Billy Erickson scores 16 for the Red Devils and Bill Erickson adds 16 for Wakefield. Wakefield visits Bessemer next to close weekend MW conference play.
The First Lutheran church hosts The Music of Bethlehem a cantata by the Women's chorus on Tuesday December 26 at 7 30 pm directed by Mrs Elmer Lusa with solos duets and choruses among readings and carols followed by a lunch. Immanuel Lutheran Church offers Christmas Eve services two services 10 30 am and 11 pm with tableaux and carols and a 7 pm peace prayer service. Finnish worship and Lutheran Church activities fill the Christmas schedule including choir rehearsals Luther League meetings and church school programs led by Rev J E Nopola and Rev Thomas Dryengacz. The Wakefield St Marys Wakefield Methodist and other nearby churches present mass choirs and festive services with a midnight Latin chant and Christmas carols.
The Luther Leagues from First and Immanuel Lutheran Churches will sing carols on December 23 meeting at First Lutheran Church at 7:00 p.m. and departing from there for the event.
The Vicar mine in Wakefield township ended all mining operations December 15 after producing 97,124 tons of ore since March. A remaining ore cargo is stored on site and will be shipped next year while equipment is dismantled.
No mail deliveries Monday Christmas Day though all packages received at the office before Christmas week. Navy Reserve Ensign David Trezise has been called for service and will report to Monterey California on January 7. Delore Hanson arrives from Wahoo Nebraska to spend holidays with her parents Victor and Mrs Hanson. she studies at Luther College.
Miss Barbara Soergel and Robert Douglas Trezise married at the English Evangelical Lutheran church in South Haven Michigan. The double ring ceremony featured Rev. William Eckert, with Martha Lofberg and Carol Thomas as junior bridesmaids and Merrill Walker singing before and during the service. The couple will reside in Owosso Michigan after the ceremony with both families and friends in attendance.
The council authorized immediate purchase of electrical material to build a permanent power line south of the city for a new water supply. George Galloway of Layne Northwest Co. and councilman R F Cloan led a compromise to drill two wells for 715000 gallons daily. The project includes $43000 contractual payments and a $160000 general obligation bond issue, while water rates rise January 1.
