Economic forecast cites modest gains and slow recovery

Col. Well known Italian Matron Dead in City Saturday

Mrs. Madeline Bordano, mother of the Bordano family, died Saturday at her daughter’s home in Fink location after a Friday illness. Born in Italy in 1865, she came to the United States in 1918 to live with her children after her husband’s death. Survived by five daughters and three sons in Wakefield and France. Funeral was held Tuesday from St Mary’s church with local cemetery interment. pallbearers named Celeste Beber, Peter Berga, James Rafatto, Andrew Galiardi, John Cardone, Peter Re.

Wakefield Mines Ship 325,109 Tons in 1935

Wakefield mines produced 352,109 tons of iron ore in 1935, below usual monthly totals. Wakefield shipped 231,983 tons, Sunday Lake 120,176 tons, Plymouth produced none due to repairs. Plymouth last shipped in 1931. Industry eyeing higher next year amid rising steel demand. some expect ore shipments to rise from 12 to 16 days monthly. Other range mines totals and Lake Superior ore consumption for November set the broader outlook.

Christmas Party Highlights From Rotary and Clubs in City

Rotary members hosted thirty boys at a Christmas party with meals, toy displays, Santa gifts, and home trips afterward. Mines employees received turkey and safety awards for the year as American Legion members joined a Community Building gathering for 600 attendees with candy for children. Scouts distributed toys and baskets to needy children, and Gopebis county WPA checks will be issued before Christmas while work pauses to Dec 30.

Township may protest the planned closing of the Thomaston railroad station effective December 22, with all activities moved to Ewen. About seven or eight workers will lose their jobs. Best man Ray Halstrom of Little Girl's Point and bridesmaid Amelia Rice of Milwaukee attended. Mrs. Stanley Ohman of Little Girl's Point served as matron of honor. Vote on Bus Transportation at Dec 30 Election

Qualified electors of the Wakefield school district are urged to vote at a special election Monday December 30 from 1 to 5 PM in the high school gymnasium. The vote asks approval for bus transportation costs to qualify the district for state funds to reimburse all bus expenses. The annual cost is about 3800 dollars and the election proceeds to determine taxpayer support.
