Tri City Television board considers pay as you go plan

At a recent Tri City Television Corporation meeting directors from Wakefield Ramsay and Bessemer plus Sgt Bonello and Richard Brown discussed dues paid and 5.00 annual payments. The board approved continuing operations until funds run out and warned that services could be shut down by January 1 1968 if generous contributions are not received.

Mrs Joki 85 dies after long illness in Gogebic hospital

Mrs. Jacob Joki Sr. of Verona, formerly of Hancock and Wakefield, dies at 1 45 a m Wednesday at Gogebic Hospital. She was born in Vaasa Finland May 20 1882 and came to the United States in 1899. Survived by six sons Robert Charles Paul Wilbert Albert Reina. a daughter Ervin Kruger. 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Lakeside Memorial Chapel to open visitation at 7 p m Thursday with funeral planned for Friday afternoon.

Quality Rubber Plant in Wakefield Runs Smoothly

Chief chemist Eivind Arnett reports the Quality Rubber Plant in Wakefield is operating smoothly with 30 employees. Eight women inspect and trim rubber while a new night worker joins the mixing mill. The plant runs five days weekly on two shifts, 7 am to 5 pm and 5 pm to 3 am, with weekly pickups by Glendening Motorways Inc and plans to hire more as production grows.

Airman Koivu on 30 day leave before Viet Nam duty

Airman Roger Koivu son of Mr and Mrs Onni Koivu has spent a 30 day leave at home after training at Lackland AFB Texas and assignment to Sheppard AFB Texas. He will travel to Tacoma Washington en route to Viet Nam for further duties after leave. He is a 1966 Wakefield High School graduate. Malovrh Minier Wedding In Wakefield Church Ceremony

Patricia Ann Malovrh daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Malovrh married Raymond Dean Minier son of Mr and Mrs Jerome Minier on Saturday December 2 at 1 00 pm at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev Wallace Leno officiating. Matron of honor was Patricia Juepperi and best man was Chris Zuidmulder. The couple planned to reside in Santa Idaho after a private dinner following the ceremony. Patricia is a 1967 Wakefield High School graduate. Raymond a 1964 graduate. He served three years in the U S Army and now works in Idaho. The couple left for Santa Idaho to make their home.

Marine Corporal Thomas Hill Leaves After 12 Day Leave

Cpl. Thomas Hill of the United States Marines departed Monday December 4 after a 12 day leave at his father Uno Hill's home and visits with relatives and friends. He began basic training at Camp Pendleton in September 1965 and served one year in Vietnam. he is now stationed at Cherry Point North Carolina.

Former Resident Dies At Marquette

Patricia Ann DeSonia LaCourse 28 of 818 West College Avenue Marquette died Tuesday morning at St Marys Hospital after six weeks as a patient. Born October 12 1939 in Ashland she later lived in Wakefield before moving to Marquette. She attended Wakefield schools and graduated Bishop Baraga Central Catholic High School in 1957. She worked eight years at First National Bank and Trust Co Marquette before marriage. She was a member of St Johns Church. Survived by husband parents two children Gene and Lisa Ann infant and two brothers Ben DeSonia Jr Marquette and Sib DeSonia Eau Claire. Funeral Thursday 10 am St Johns Church burial Holy Cross Cemetery pallbearers listed. Out of town attendees listed.

1967 Christmas Stamp Encore Honors Memling Artwork

The Post Office Department issued a larger 1967 version of the popular 1966 Christmas stamp featuring Hans Memling’s Madonna and Child with Angels from the National Gallery of Art. Acting Postmaster Reuben Maki said the five cent stamp gains first class handling for Christmas cards and urged early mailing with ZIP codes to speed processing.

Wakefield High School hires Elder Pflughoeft as band director starting November 27. A Cisco Lake native with a University of Michigan music degree, he previously lived in Indian and worked as a mortician, running a Land O Lakes business this past summer. City Hall Hours Change in Wakefield Finance Office

City Manager Raymond Norkoli announces immediate changes for the Wakefield Finance Department hours. The office will open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. five days a week, with staff on a staggered shift. Workers begin at 8:00 a.m. but remain closed to the public until 8:30 a.m. to catch up on records and prep for the day.
