Forest fires rage across Michigan county totals in 1933

The Department of Conservation reports 4,727 fires burning 193,131 acres in 1933, up from 2,536 fires and 39,034 acres in 1932. Most damage fell in late August and September, with Crawford county's Lovells fire burning 31,125 acres. Upper Peninsula totals reached 90,942 acres from 2,221 fires, while the Lower Peninsula logged 102,289 acres from 2,506 fires. Marquette led in fire count with 285, Dickinson 250, Iron 240. Alpena had the most fires in its county at 155 but only 2,185 acres burned.

Tax collections begin in city and township in Wakefield

Tax collections for 1933 start in Wakefield city and township. Township taxes total 55,222.08 with a 40.12 percent drop from 1932, the largest decline in the county. Literary Program At Club Meeting

A Woman's club Wednesday afternoon program will feature readings of early 90s prose by Mrs. R. B. Wortley and Mrs. C. H. Christopherson and a Sunday afternoon act dramatisation by Adeline Gilbert, Charlotte Rowan, Russell Jacobson, and Gordon Tressel. Visitors and locals gather for holiday social in Wakid area

Ironwood Prosector Dies Suspected Suicide at Home
