Help Needed for Retarded Children in Gogebic County Area

Gogebic Association for Retarded Children has existed about 15 years. Voters supported a one mill tax for special education providing classes and specialized staff including diagnostician and speech therapist. Mrs Anna Salmi Celebrates 88th Birthday Party

Mrs Anna Salmi marked her 88th birthday with a party at Divine Infant Hospital where she is receiving care. Friends and relatives visited, cards and gifts were given, and flowers arrived from Copenhagen. Hostesses were Mrs Ward Zuidmulder Mrs Nels Seppa and Mrs Reino Salmi. A fall wedding for Karen and Roy Williams is planned amidst other notes.

Upper Great Lakes project briefing in Washington DC

The Upper Great Lakes Human and Economic Development Project was presented in Washington DC on April 1 and 12 by Mrs. E J Hawker wife of the late Frederick L Hawker and introduction to Congressman Alvin O Konski. The two day trip yielded contacts with Senator Griffin and Congressman Ruppe and funding leads arranged by Nate Semple. A report of the Washington trip was presented April 13 14 in Marquette Michigan to the Upper Peninsula regional inter agency coordinating committee for retardation and related disabilities with attendees from Northern Michigan University Alger and Marquette counties and leadership from Dr Edward L Ruman George Maniaci M D and Cory Jansen.

Citizens Petition Aids Sunday Lake Summer Camp Effort

College students volunteer to back the Sunday Lake Summer Camp for handicapped children in Gogebic Ontonagon area. Sunday School Program Postponed to May 14 at 10 AM

The Sunday School program at First Lutheran Church was moved from April 30 to May 14 at 10:00 am. The event will take place at the church facilities with attendees informed of the new date and time.

Upper Great Lakes development project aids disabled citizens

The Gogebic Range Jaycees fund a Sunday Lake Summer Camp for Handicapped Children and a broader plan to rehabilitate the Iron Range through vocational training centers, sheltered workshops, hotel motel management programs, and housing with a house mother. The program targets ages 6 to 25 and aims for a twelve week schedule with teachers in special and physical education. Presented by club president Douglas Olson and Rev. Tom Wandam, with coverage on WJMS radio.
