Wakefield High Band Delights With Annual Concert
The Wakefield high school band gave its annual Tuesday night concert in the gym to about 500 parents and friends. Led by Carl E. Nelson the group offered semi classical and popular selections with standout performances by Bill Verdi, Mary Trolla, Ronald Smith and a trumpet trio. The finale featured Bucalossi’s Hunting Song abetted by three percussionists James Bracket, David Westlund and Myron Swanson. The program praised Nelson’s lifelong devotion and the band’s notable growth.

Initial Plans Made To Obtain Hospital Funds
An Area Memorial Hospital Association will be organized to solicit funds for a 50 bed addition to Divine Infant of Prague hospital in Wakefield. Victor Lepisto urged it be a World War II veterans memorial with a plaque in the new wing. J P Cloon, hospital committee chair, outlined federal and local funding plans totaling 385000 federal funds due July 1 plus 240000 from Sisters of St Joseph, leaving 75000 to raise locally. Union leaders backed payroll deductions and mine unions pledged support. An executive committee was named including Cloon Lepisto Simonich Valesano and Mazanec.

John McDonald 61 World War veteran died of a heart attack Monday afternoon while preparing to go to work. He lived 24 years at Plymouth with his family. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon. Interment at Riverside cemetery Ironwood. Pallbearers listed. Wakefield’s First Settler Mrs Desonia Dies at 402 South
Mrs Desonia Catherine Sweet Desonia 76 longtime Wakefield resident and widow of Thomas Desonia died suddenly of a heart attack at her home. She born August 26 1876 in Eden Wisconsin and moved to Wakefield with the Sweet family in 1884. Survived by 12 children 27 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Funeral at St Marys church after visitations at Frick Chapel.
