Plymouth Will Mine 400 000 Tons This Year

Plymouth mine expects to ship 400000 tons of ore this season under superintendent Anneth Duncan, marking the first full shipping period since 1931. About 75 workers will be employed at forty hours weekly as tracks and pit equipment are upgraded for a busy summer.

Treasury to issue checks and bonds for 2 million bonus

Secretary Henry Morgenthau Jr told veterans group delegates that the treasury will have checks and service bonds on hand to pay the 2 million dollar World War II bonus. Administrators Frank Hines and W. W. Howes attended, detailing distribution through federal reserve districts. The Veterans Administration has 2,700,000 claims, with progress noted as rapidly advancing.

Murray D Van Wagoner state highway commissioner announced 16 oil aggregate road projects with bids opening April 1 for 81.65 miles of surfacing on gravel trunk lines under a WPA cooperative program. The plan covers 149.8 miles in 14 counties with an estimated cost of 1,328,974 including drainage.

Couple Married Last Saturday in Wakefield

The bride and groom, Dominic Bertetto and Miss Minnie Brackett, married last Saturday with Fr Albert J Treilles officiating. The ceremony featured a white satin gown and white accessories, corsages of Ardenias, and was followed by breakfast for 50 at the bride’s home. The couple will reside in Wakefield. Mrs Bertetto previously worked for Mather and Company and mine operators. More than 150 attended a shower at Caspian Parish Hall.

Plans Complete To Move 49 Moose From Isle Royale

State conservationists finalize plans to relocate more than 40 moose from Isle Royale across Lake Superior to the mainland. A trap crew baited a large box trap and loaded moose one by one into crates for the voyage, with D Ruhl and Hickie leading the effort. Most animals will be released near a Casino game area where nine of the herd already reside.
