Water, Building Permits Before City Commission

City officials review water pressure issues caused by a main break and discuss building permit matters. Mayor Cloon notes pressure is returning to normal after repairs to the main line. auxiliary units and a leak near the pump station are under investigation.

Miss Emma Agriesti daughter of Mr and Mrs Vincent Agriesti is named for high honors on the school’s Prom committee and yearbook staff. She has served as Tatler editor this year and led the Junior year activities while a member of the school annual staff.

Pre School Clinic For Children

A free pre school clinic for children starting kindergarten next September will be conducted in Wakefield schools by Dr. H A Tressel, school physician. It provides a physical exam, smallpox vaccination, and diphtheria immunization. Permission slips and the birth certificate must be presented. The Central school clinic meets Tuesdays April 27 May 4 May 11 May 25 at 2 30 pm. The MacDonald school clinic meets Thursdays April 20 May 6 May 18 May 27 at 2 30 pm. Marie G Manley is in charge.

Lung X ray Clinic Aids Wakefield Area Residents

More than 1200 Wakefield and Wakefield township residents received X ray lung tests during the four day visit of a Michigan State Health Department mobile unit. Of these, 1125 were examined at the enclosed ice rink and 105 at Connerville in Wakefield township. Ballots are being mailed to all Legion members for the annual election to be held Tuesday, May 4.

March Council Minutes Reported with Permits and Actions

March Gogebic County Council of Veteran Affairs report was read and filed. City accountant report summary ordered published with minutes. Fifteen building permit applications were presented including new homes for Howard and Julia Anderson Reuben Ahonen and Eino Ikola and a cement block pump station for Ernest Tuomela. Tuomela permit tabled for further study and referred to electric department. Ahonen and Robert O Connor permit approved pending sewer and water facilities. other applications approved. Four sewer connections were noted.

Ten Get Petitions For Commission On Charter Revision

City clerk Chester Rydeski reports ten candidates have obtained petitions to form a charter revision commission. Each petition requires 60 to 120 registered voter signatures and must be filed by Saturday May 1. Names circulating include Trebilcock Seppa Valesano Patyk Lepisto Anderson Duffin Voyer Jacobson and Trezise. Nine members will be named to draft a new city charter at the May 25 special election.

Wakefield Cooperative Names New Directors at Annual Meeting

Erland Harry, John Levo and August Koski were named directors of the Wakefield Cooperative association at its recent annual meeting. Oscar Niemi was named associate director. The association's reports show a healthy financial position with year sales of 142,669 dollars, up 20 percent from last year. A deficit of 714 dollars per member in 1941 was reduced to total member equity of 18,000 dollars in 1947. A three percent interest was declared on stock certificates and 3,500 dollars was returned to customers in stock certificates.

Jose Promoted to in charge at the Ironton mine Bessemer W A Knoll general superintendent of Pickands Co announced Friday. Jose, a graduate of Michigan Tech, has been engineer at Sunday Lake and Anvil mines since joining the company. He succeeds Harold Gustafson who resigned to lead a National Gypsum plant at Bellefont Penn.

City Commission approves over $14,000 in building permits

More than 14 000 in building permits were approved at the city commission meeting. Dwellings by Howard Anderson and Eino Ikola at 4000 each, LeRoy Hallberg remodeling at 1000, Erland Berg moving and reconstructing a house at 1000, Rueben Ahonen 6 room dwelling at 3000, plus other permits from 25 to 500. First Baseball Practice Aspirants for positions on the VFW baseball squad will report for practice Monday evening.

Announcement states Mis Barbara Johnson and Paul Kruger will wed Saturday in Milwaukee. Mrs Johnson is daughter of Mr and Mrs Harlan Johnson of this city. groom son of Mr and Mrs Kreger of Qconton.
