Emil Wietta was badly injured when a blast in the Sunday Lake Mine shaft detonated. An ton Narva received a minor forehead cut. Wietta’s condition worsened Thursday evening as a blood clot formed, and he remains semi conscious with poor prognosis.

Bride of month dies after car collision near Tobin’s Siding
Mrs. Hugo Mattila a bride of one month died after being struck by a car on US 2 near Tobin's Siding. S. J. Williams and W. S. Baird were in the other vehicle. She was taken to Wakefield General Hospital where she died from a skull fracture. She was born in Wakefield November 7, 1912 and survived by husband, parents, two sisters and four brothers. Funeral services are planned for Saturday.

Divorces Rise in County and State for 1929
In 1929 the circuit court granted 24 divorces in the county, up from 21 in 1928, while 264 marriages occurred versus 254 the previous year. The upper peninsula counties all saw more divorces. State totals show 36,816 marriages and 11,985 divorces in 1929, up from 37,300 marriages and 10,531 divorces in 1928.

J. C. Watson Dies After Paralysis at 53
John C. Watson longtime Gogebic county school official died at Ironwood home after a paralytic stroke at a Rotary convention. He served as Ironwood High School principal from 1909 to 1921 and as county commissioner of schools until his death. Survived by widow and three children. Funeral Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with civic and fraternal delegations present.
