Erick Nikula dies after long illness in Wakefield

Erick Nikula 71 longtime Wakefield resident died Tuesday night at Wakefield hospital after a week-long stay and two year illness. Born December 25 1869 in a Swedish town in Finland he came to the United States over fifty years ago settling in Wakefield. He married Wilhelmina Lumakka in 1908. she died seven years ago. Survived by two sons Arthur and several daughters including Annie Tynne Ina Nakarado Evar Forslund Gertrude and Wayne Nyman plus ten grandchildren a brother John Nordeen and sister Mrs Andrew Nylund. Funeral from the township residence Saturday at 1:30 and Finnish Ev Lutheran church at 2 with Rev F W Kaskinen. Burial in Lakeview Cemetery.

Stamp Plan For Upper Peninsula Consider Stamp Plan For Upper Peninsula

A Gogebic county delegation reported the Upper Peninsula may be declared a special area for the federal food stamp plan to distribute surplus commodities. DeMolays Conclave Set For Iron Mountain UP Chapters

Iron Mountain hosts the Upper Peninsula DeMolay conclave on April 26 and 27. Registration runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Masonic temple. A sight seeing tour is planned, with a spring format later at Kingsford High School. Sunday features breakfast, church services, a 1 to 2:30 p.m. business meeting, initiation ceremonies by Iron River team, and a 6 p.m. banquet concluding the event.

Sunday Lake Begins Shipping of Stockpiles

Sunday Lake mine at Plymouth starts two shift operation and stockpile loading as full shipping season begins. Orders total 600000 tons for the season with demand from lower lakes and defense needs guiding further bookings. Wakefield mine of Hanna Ore has not yet received guidance on when to begin shipments or tonnage.
