Sunday Lake ice clears earlier than several years

Sunday Lake nears full ice melt as warm winds yesterday and last weekend pushed ice to vanish mostly overnight. Local librarian Gertrude Walstrom records since 1950 to show this early break in the ice cover for the area.

Hanson Forte Zuidmulder Win In City Election

Olga Hanson led with 550 votes, followed by Andrew Forte 495 and Ward Zuidmulder 494 in a city council election. H John Graves failed with 452 votes amid many write ins for constable. Carl Walter Nyman won with 7 write ins.

Talent Show Friday Night at Wakefield Music Auditorium

The 4-H talent show opens Friday at 7 30 p m in the Wakefield Music Auditorium for all county 4 H boys and girls. Winners advance to May 4 finals at Ironwood Theatre. Parents and the public invited with a nominal charge. Locker rooms available for costume changes. Entertainment between acts and refreshments by the 4 H Service Club.

Past Matron's Club Dinner at Bell Chalet Hurley

The Past Matron's Club of Victory Chapter OES held its annual dinner at the Bell Chalet in Hurley on Tuesday night. After dinner, bridge prizes were awarded to Mrs. George Mall for high and Mrs. C E Kleimola for low. The next meeting is set for the second Tuesday in June at the home of Mrs. Harold Ormes in Marenisco.

Driver Unhurt in Mishap Near Wakefield on M-28

William A. Niemi, 59, of Box 335 Wakefield escaped injury after a Sunday evening auto accident on M-28 five-tenths of a mile east of Wakefield city limits. Michigan State Police investigated the mishap and noted substantial undercarriage damage requiring a wrecker removal of the vehicle.

The Wakefield High School gym hosts the Junior Prom on April 19 from 9 00 p m to 1 12 a m with a grand march at 11 00 p m The $2 per couple fee applies and a viewing fee of 50c for adults and 25c for students. Pink and Blue Shower Honors Mrs Richard Holm

Mrs. Richard Holm was honored at a pink and blue shower held Saturday at the home of Mrs. Elmer Schulz in Springstead. Attendees from Wakefield included Mrs. Chester Dillon Mrs. Robert Anderson and Mrs. Carl Krueger of L Anse. Her husband Richard plans to leave Friday for Milwaukee to join the Merchant Marines boat William J Filbert.

Hippie Lent Program Presented by Junior Luther League

The Junior Luther League of First and Immanuel Lutheran churches staged a program titled A Hippie Faces Lent at First Lutheran Church. Mary Jane Ahola and Liz Jarvi acted as hippie and Christian, with dialogue by Rev. Wayne Kuusisto. A girls quartet sang Wide Open Are Thy Hands and there were duets and solos including There is a Green Hill Far Away and Beautiful Savior. An Easter Cross flower fund was part of the event followed by lunch. the same program will be repeated at Immanuel Lutheran Church on April 7.

Michigan MSP transfers reveal new posts in east and north

Col. Fredrick E. Davids announces promotions and transfers in the Michigan State Police. Cpl. Robert R. Bishop moves from East Lansing operations to Gladstone effective April 14. Bishop previously served at the Wakefield Post. Two officers receive new posts under the same report and five others are transferred.
