Local artist carves 18 foot eagle for East Rockingham High
Jim Miller, 53, is crafting a wooden eagle for East Rockingham High School in Elkton. He began in April and aims for October completion, potentially year end. The work occurs in his uncle’s wood shop, using cherry, poplar, oak and walnut. The wingspan will be 18 feet and wings include 210 feathers. The eagle will adorn a gym wall and talons will use Ziri cote wood. Principal Baylor proposed the project. The process involves gluing and pin and screw work.
