Jeff Jones, 52, longtime Elkton Rockingham County recreation committee member, enters Elkton Council race as a rookie candidate for three seats. Incumbents Armbruster and Dean run. Pence does not. Jones aims to involve his sons and broaden community participation. He moved to Elkton in 1995 and works at Walmart Mount Crawford. wife Jennifer is an Elkton Middle School teacher. The couple have two sons, Jacob and Andrew, and both are Elkton Blue Sox board members.

Kite House cruise in draws car crowd on Spotswood Trail
On October 25 the Kite mansion near Elkton hosted a cruise in with antique classic and custom cars trucks and motorcycles. The lawn drew residents visitors and owners with 50s music and event sponsors including Olde Tyme Cruisers Dove's Delights Fox's Coffee and Elkton Area United Services. Cash plaques wooden plaques and a late raffle ticket draw were part of the evening.

Augusta County grand jury indicted Andrea Corenine Mullan, 32, in the August shooting that killed 80 year old Richard Eugene Orebaugh at his Mount Sidney home. She now faces first degree murder plus additional charges.

Town hall reopens for public events in Port Republic
Port Republic residents Martha and Walter Curt remodeled a private home at 8597 Water St for civic groups weddings and meetings. The couple aims to host events including society, Ruritan, birthdays and retirements starting next spring once occupancy permits. Family and friends gathered at Shenandoah Landing and River Park for a candle vigil marking what would have been Joy Schultz's 52nd birthday. The event shifted from a plea for safe return to a memory service after remains were believed found weeks after she was last seen. Crawford, Schultz's sister, thanked supportive strangers and spoke of closure.
