Recovery Progress After SNP Record Fire Sees Signs of Healing
Six months after the Rocky Mount Fire in Shenandoah National Park, investigators search for a cause while officials report signs of recovery in the Rocky Mount Trail area south east of Elkton. Spokeswoman Sally Hurlbert notes the ash acts as nutrients and fertilizer helping regrowth. The fire grew from 70 acres to 7,000 before containment on May 15, burning 10,326 acres and becoming SNP’s second-largest wildfire.

Race for Education at Elkton Elementary raises funds
Elkton Elementary School held its fifth annual PTA Race for Education at Stonewall Memorial Park. Students ran or walked laps for an hour while collecting donations and could earn a pie throw at Principal Chris Bryant. Total funds reached 15,487 dollars for iPads field trips and classroom needs.
