Elkton announces cash awards for its first downtown business decorating contest. First place 500, second 250, third 100, funded by town. pottery prizes from Elkton Progressive Improvement Committee. Decorations must go up after Dec 1 and stay until after Jan 1 2016. Tree lighting set Dec 3 at 6 30 p m at town hall.

Police arrest Elkton woman after probation evasion pursuit
Rockingham County deputies captured Crystal Rankin, 34, of Elkton, after she evaded authorities last week while probation violations were pursued. Information led to an abandoned Elkton-area residence where Rankin was arrested without incident around 1 p.m. Wednesday. Additional charges may follow as investigators continue.

The Town of Elkton’s municipal building at 173 W. Spotswood Ave. received the October 2015 Community Enhancement Award for beautification of an existing property. The eight-room, two-story Italianate brick Jennings House dates to 1840 and served as a Confederate hospital during the Civil War.

Teen raises funds for fountains in Grottoes
Araya Fitzwater a 13 year old FCCLA student at Montevideo Middle School raises funds on RedBasket.org to install three water fountains in Mountain View Park and Grand Caverns Grottoes a top water outlet a middle wheelchair accessible arm and a dog bowl with a pedestal button. So far she has 3840 in donations from local businesses individuals and WoodmenLife Chapter 347 and seeks 1860 more by February for installation in March or April with the Town of Grottoes to install and maintain.

PCHS marching Panthers win placements in first full lineup year
Page County High School finally fielded a competitive band after five years of growth under Delynn Ringle. The marching band with 24 members placed second at Shenandoah Valley Marching Invitational, while color guard won first and drum line took second at Blast in the Draft on Sept. 26.

Students and teachers from Montevideo Middle School along with groups from James Madison University and Spotswood High School performed in Pitch Perfect to fund a new auditorium stage. Voters paid $1 per vote and the event raised $890, with Aca-Believers winning first place. eighth grade civics teacher Terry Propst sang tenor in the faculty act.
