Shenandoah joins the national Small Business Saturday with events at town hall 426 First St from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Shoppers get a passport and free tote bag, visit at least four stores, stamp passports, and spend at least one item to be entered for a $50 gift card. Also face painting tours and restrooms.
McGaheysville residents persuaded the Harrisonburg area Board of Supervisors to deny a permit for a truck repair shop at 9796 McGaheysville Road. The vote was 4 to 0 with one abstention, denying the request by Robert Walker of Edgewater, Florida to operate a tractor trailer repair business in a former service station near McGaheysville Elementary School.
The Virginia ABC opens a new store at 85 August Street in Villa Crossing Center Grottoes with board chair Jeffrey Painter and Del. Steve Landes present. Painter notes 18th consecutive year of sales records and focus on rural expansion. Store hours are 10 am to 9 pm weekdays and 12 pm to 6 pm Sunday, closed Thanksgiving Day.
Shenandoah Town Council on November 8 thanked volunteers Kirk Comer and David Duke for reopening the biking and hiking trail at Big Gem Park. More volunteers are sought to finish openings and complete mowing trimming and raking of leaves across the park.
Shenandoah council notes include Ro meo Pugliese for Page County Economic Development Authority and participation in the Stanley Christmas parade at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 with Ed Good Memorial Park encore by JMA Overtones Chorus 8 to 9 p.m. Luminaries may be purchased and lit. Tree lighting Dec. 10 at Big Gem Park. A resident's request to waive refuse charges for a vacant house was denied. See council page 5.
Grand Caverns hosts Caroling in the Caverns on Saturday December 3 from 6 to 8 PM with candlelight guided tours every 15 minutes lasting about 30 minutes. Proceeds aid South River Boys and Girls Club and the Grottoes Ruritan Club scholarship fund. Admission 5 for ages 13 and up. 12 and under free with new arts and crafts donations.
Leah Heller ends her world touring with Ballet Palm Beach and Richmond Ballet to rejoin The Academy of Expressive Dance at Elkton Recreation Center. The 22 year old Massanutten resident cites a foot injury and family ties as reasons to move back home and resume education toward nursing.
