Elkton Theater seized to pay drug judgment
The U S Marshals Service seized the Elkton Theater at 415 W Spotswood Trail on Oct 7 from Joyce Crawford and her son Kenneth to satisfy a roughly 2 million judgment tied to drug offenses by the Crawford family. Final forfeiture is expected within a month or two with about 1 3 million still due.

Elkton sees "good year" in Fiscal 2014 audits
Harrisonburg auditor David Black told Elkton Town Council that the town reduced debt by 422000 in the year ending June 30 and finished with a 5830,000 debt load. The sewer fund posted an 810,000 deficit while the water fund yielded a 124,000 surplus offsetting the sewer shortfall. The cemetery fund, losing 15000 to 20000 annually, risks drying up in four to five years. Mayor Roy Davis lauded the progress as a standard, positive year.

Chronic Wasting Disease Plan Meeting Set Thursday
The National Park Service will hold three public meetings this week to discuss changes to the 2018 Chronic Wasting Disease Response Plan Environmental Assessment for Shenandoah National Park. The plan proposes increasing deer culls within five miles of the park to detect the disease, which has not been found inside the park but was documented about 12 miles north. The 2013 plan already approved lethal sampling of up to 314 deer.

Family expands poultry business with third chicken operation
