The Elkton Town Economic and Community Development Committee and the Elkton Area Community Center host the second annual Community Club and Organization Fair from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday May 22 at the EACC on Blue and Gold Drive. Grottoes Budget Proposes Tax Hike And Rates Change
The 2015 budget for Grottoes includes higher cigarette taxes and increased water and sewer charges for users above 4,000 gallons. A May 12 public hearing preceded a possible June 9 council vote, with final approval by June 30 as the new fiscal year begins July 1. The plan totals 3.8 million, down from 4.6 million, driven largely by a 2 million wastewater plant upgrade that boosted spending in 2014.

Shenandoah incumbents prevail in town elections
Shenandoah voters re elected all four incumbents in last Tuesday's town election. Turnout was 7 percent with 107 of 1 440 registered voters marking ballots. Councilman William Kite led with 84 votes, followed by Charles Jenkins 83 and Mike Lowe 78. Lynn Fox earned 53 votes. Lucas Jr. was unopposed and re elected as mayor.

Oak Grove Church Fire Cause Remains Undetermined
Investigators three months after the February blaze at Oak Grove United Methodist Church near Shenandoah say a cause is still undetermined. Page County Sheriff's Office and ATF lab results have not pinpointed a theory, with about 50 congregants attending Grove Hill United Methodist Church while services continue.

Heritage Day returns to Grand Caverns for history event
Grand Caverns hosts its fourth annual Heritage Day on Saturday June 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A Civil War 150 History Mobile panel display re enacting groups living history demonstrations and a Civil War dance group will entertain. Cannon fires hourly as visitors wear period clothing and sample foods such as apple butter bean pot ice cream and fried pies. Activities include flintlock demos soap making and crafts with free daytime park admission. The day ends with a candlelight tour in the Grand Ballroom.

High winds rip roof from Rinaca home near Shenandoah
The Mark Hensley family of Rinaca near Shenandoah feared for their safety when a powerful Sunday wind damaged their dwelling. The roof and walls were torn, forcing the family to seek shelter at a nearby motel for three nights. Bonnie Hensley escaped with no reported injuries as the metal roof overlay peeled away.
