The Elkton council held a first reading on a new sign ordinance and a tougher land use and zoning violation ordinance. The proposed measures, with revisions since February, set penalties up to 5000 dollars, daily 1000 dollar fines, and potential criminal action after due process. Public hearings and a later vote are planned for next month. The ordinances, printed for Monday, are available at Town Hall and on the town website.
