Town council mulls paving and grant for old town dump
Elkton officials discussed paving five streets this year including all of Lee Avenue and parts of Terrace Clark West Washington and North streets. The low bid of 100532 came from Smith Paving. VDOT funds will cover part of the project with about 50000 from town funds for a Terrace parking area not in the 2017 budget.

Festival of Freedom brings music to Elkton for veterans
Elkton hosts the Festival of Freedom on Sunday July 17 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Blue Ridge Park near U S 340 Shenandoah Avenue. Ed Hager and Rev. David Vaughn organized the event to honor veterans and raise funds and awareness for addiction and mental health issues faced by service members. Free admission with three bands performing New Grass Associates, Tommy Wood, and Little Walter and the Convictions.

Elkton Middle FFA Attends Virginia State Convention
The Elkton Middle School FFA Chapter finished a strong 2015 16 year by attending the 90th Virginia FFA State Convention in June 2023 on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg. The event theme Unlock urged members to unlock opportunity potential purpose passion and their FFA futures. The chapter was named the top middle school chapter in the Northern Area and placed second in the SEE.

Elk-Mobile brings books to Elkton Elementary students
Elkton Elementary launches Elk-Mobile a summer reading program with seven distribution points. Pre-kindergarten teacher Tamsen Benner says each child or parent can pick three books or magazines per visit, returning them after two weeks for new selections. About 30 participants joined the first run aided by seven Anglican Church volunteers and donations from the school and church.
