The Elkton Gateway Kick-off Cruise-in organized by the Elkton Gateway Steering Committee and Elkton town departments marked Elkton’s first Gateway Project event. The plan connects Skyline Drive to downtown through signage landscaping and revitalization efforts.
Ashley Dawn Hammer, 25, died at the University of Virginia Medical Center after a Sunday crash on Naked Creek Road north of Elkton. Emergency crews responded to a wreck involving a 2000 Ford pickup and a 1986 Honda motorcycle carrying Hammer as a passenger. SGT Les Tyler said the fatality occurred about 4 30 p m Sunday.
Shenandoah National Park faces trash problems in its central district with sites on Jollett and Jewell Hollow Access roads in Page County and Thoroughfare Road by Dry Run Creek in Rockingham County. Maintenance crews were set to clean up Jollett Road end this Wednesday.
During the June 24 meeting Shenandoah Town Council waived permit requirements for a proposed farmers market in town. Dorothy Pendley is a founder.
WA SMO RE as leader of The Group, a volunteer civic body, agrees to review costs to determine feasibility of enacting a golf cart ordinance. The office will close to the public July 9 to 11 to finish old fiscal year books and set up new year records.
Don DePoy and Martha Hills organized a Tuesday bluegrass jam at the Elkton Area Community Center from late January to June 24. Five months raised 667 dollars for Shenandoah Music Trail, with 800 dollars and 50 dollars per night donated to the center.
Peak Paintball began operations in McGaheysville on June 21 at 55 McGahey Lane. Manager James Lambert notes a 100 by 40 foot field for up to eight players, with gear provided and a 15 to 20 minute game. Owners Tee and Karyn Withrow plan two more fields next year and laser tag potential. Prices run 15 dollars per 100 paintballs and 20 dollars per 200 with group discounts.
Linda Allen opened Black Bear Art Studio on Massanutten Mountain after six years of work. The studio showcases eclectic American and foreign art, including copies of originals and oil based pieces. Allen taught herself painting while her husband Keith frames and sometimes paints deer and bears seen in their backyard.
