Winter storm Jonas dumps two feet of snow on area
Elkton Grottoes and Shenandoah deployed public works crews to remove roughly two feet of snow after Winter Storm Jonas. Elkton used 12 hour shifts and private contractors. Grottoes ran non stop from Friday 10 am to Saturday 4 pm with six workers. Shenandoah reported 27 inches with ten workers on two 12 hour shifts starting Friday.

Elkton cabinetmaker overcomes recession to expand business
Virginia Cabinetworks owner Dan Velker recalls surviving the 2009 downturn with just three home contracts. Now eight employees strong, the Elkton firm designs frameless European cabinets using computer aided work. Velker learned cabinet making from two Russian mentors and started the business in 2004 in Elkton, growing from a second story start to a busy operation.
