Elkton Traffic Study Proposals Meet Cold Reception
Elkton council members and residents rejected an advisory traffic flow plan presented at a public hearing. The Small Urban Transportation Study, begun in 2013, proposes two options to manage vehicles and pedestrians through 2040 in a triangle area along Stuart Avenue. VDOT planner Adam Campbell noted the town’s 1.5 percent annual growth as the basis for the study.

Urban Transportation Study Proposes Median and Bike Lanes
A study for Spotswood area plans traffic growth to 2040 and offers two options. Option one adds a median on Stuart Avenue with a pedestrian refuge, a crosswalk at Old Spotswood Trail, a bicycle lane on Old Spotswood Trail east of Stuart Avenue, and sidewalks. Option two converts Old Spotswood Trail and Spotswood Avenue to one way streets, reallocating one lane for bicycle use.

Adventurers Club expands to add Spotswood High School
The Adventurers Club, an educational nonprofit offering free or discounted passes to Massanutten Resort, will include Spotswood High School this year thanks to $2,100 in donations. William R. Madren of Elkton contributed $1,600 and the Community Foundation of Harrisonburg added $500, enabling access for the final two nine week periods of the current school year.

Go-Mart Inc plans to bring a Little Caesars to the BP station at Mt. Hermon Road and U.S. 33 in Elkton this spring. The property, bought for 1.44 million, seeks rezoning to B-1. The plan faces a Jan 27 board vote amid concerns about parking and traffic.

Elkton to hold public hearing on water sewer bonds
The Elkton Council will hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. on Monday February 15 in the Elkton Area Community Center to discuss issuance of up to 3.1 million in water and sewer bonds. Attorney Nathan Miller announced the hearing after it was moved from January 18. The bonds fund phase two of wastewater plant upgrades under a consent order with the Virginia DEQ. the town took over plant operation in September.

General Store Expands Showroom on Maryland Avenue Shenandoah
Shenandoah General Store co owner Karen Miller says the expansion adds 1500 square feet to 123 Maryland Ave converting Foltz home built in the 1920s into a showroom. The couple owns 119 and 123 Maryland Ave since 1989 and previously offered home furnishings by special order. They will add beds curtains primitive furniture and pictures to the lineup.
