Elkton clinic relocates to Shen Elk Plaza for expanded space
Elkton Family and Children's Medical Center, a local non profit active for eight years, moved last week from 115 E Rockingham Ave to Shen Elk Plaza. Nurse practitioner Pete Hill says the relocation adds two exam rooms and a community meeting room open to the public. The center serves more than 7,000 patients. it opened in 2007 and remains about 1,850 feet from old site. Center for Family and Marriage Counseling of Harrisonburg will offer Thursday counseling sessions at the new site.

Elkton man indicted for murder and gun use in Rockingham Court
A Rockingham County Circuit Court grand jury indicted Elkton resident Nicholas Thiel on second degree murder and use of a firearm charges. Thiel, 25, is to stand trial May 19 for the Oct. 19 shooting death of 40 year old Clifford Polk in Bridgewater. Polk was at his estranged wife’s home to drop off their daughter. Thiel was the woman's boyfriend and is jailed.

Elkton man’s charges dropped in stabbing case
Jonathan Michael Jacobs, 30, Elkton, had a malicious wounding charge dismissed after being pressed but remains jailed on a probation violation. He was charged in the Dec. 7 stabbing of Timothy Cordero Cabbage, who said Jacobs acted in self defense. The case proceeded in Rockingham.

Pollinator Study Wins Inaugural Trust Grant
Jessica Rykken of the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University receives the inaugural Trust Research Grant worth $15,000. The one year project titled Catch the Buzz will study pollinator diversity and phenology in Shenandoah National Park starting in May, building on decades of surveys across multiple parks and habitats.

Trapper Demonstrates All-Purpose Set At Convention
Elkton resident Scott Dean, 54, has spent 15 years removing bats, birds, coyotes, moles, voles, foxes, muskrats, raccoons, skunks, snakes and turtles from area properties. He heads to the National Trappers Association convention in upstate New York in late July to showcase his “the trough set,” a trapping method that aims to catch many animals without relocating the trap.

Instructors Visit Massanutten for National Course
A national instructors course on alpine skiing and snowboarding runs this week at Massanutten Resort. It began Monday and continues Friday with participation from members of the Professional Ski Instructors of America and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors.
