Elkton to Host Emergency Squad Competition on Sunday
Elkton Emergency Squad will host a friendly competition at the Elkton Area Community Center this Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon. About 10 to 12 squads are expected to compete in extrication, basic and advanced life support, and emergency vehicle operator events, with 50 to 80 participants. The Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads will meet at 1 p.m. after the event, which was postponed from Jan. 24 due to Winter Storm Jonas.

V and VIII acquired a 12 acre site on the north side of Shenandoah west of US 340 for 115000 in October 2013. The Genie plant that made garage doors closed in May 2012. Tim Matter of Tactical Walls says his co owned firm bought the vacant business. Jeffery P. Vaughn, Shenandoah resident, is registered agent for V and VIII and also owns Shenandoah Speedway and KVK Precision Specialties.

Soaring to new heights in motocross at Georgia Dome
McGaheysville 77 year old Landon Davis, son of Lee and June Davis, is among 15 boys chosen for the KTM Jr. Supercross Challenge in Atlanta. The sixth Teen annual Monster Energy Supercross circuit event showcases top 7 and 8 year olds. Landon began riding at three and racing at four and now trains two to three times weekly. His mother notes his excitement and focus on the track rather than the crowd.

The Elkton Town Council meeting and public hearings for 6:15 and 6:30 p.m. have been moved to February 29 due to last week's winter weather. The hearings will discuss changes to definitions for transitional living centers and living quarters, and the issuance of 3.1 million dollars in bonds for the second of four wastewater plant upgrade phases under a DEQ consent order.
