McGuire and Walton Stores in Elkton Triangle History

The Elkton triangle area housed Walton and Bear’s drug stores in the early 1900s. George W. Walton later ran McGuire’s store after marrying Nettie Walton, adding meats and expanding offerings. The 1922 fire destroyed the triangle, including Mayor Bruce’s property. The McGuire line continued until 1989, then the building was restored by Todd and Crystal Townsend as McGuire’s Country Store offering antiques. A 2011 Elkton pictorial calendar features the era and is available through local outlets.
