Bus Crashes Delay Rockingham County Students on First Day
Two separate crashes involving Rockingham County school buses disrupted the first day of classes. No injuries were reported, and all students reached their schools. Buses carrying 19 to Elkton Middle and East Rockingham High and seven to Linville Edom Elementary were involved. drivers were not at fault, per Superintendent Dr. Carol Fenn.

Elkton quakes at 5.9. no injuries or damage reported
A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck the Elkton area Tuesday afternoon, with the epicenter four miles south-southeast of Louisa and four miles southwest of Mineral Virginia. The quake was felt from Rhode Island to North Carolina and reached 3.7 miles deep. Parts of the Pentagon White House and Capitol were evacuated per AP.

Elkton dance program opens registration for new classes
Elkton Recreation Center hosts registration for fall classes on Sept 1 2 and Sept 3 6 with a $15 family fee and monthly tuition. A spring show is planned for East Rockingham High School in June. Bus transport is available from River Bend Elementary Elkton Middle and East Rockingham High to the center for a Sept 7 start.

Grove Hill Bridge on Eastside Highway in Page County
A two part series introduces Grove Hill Bridge north of Shenandoah with a 1950 photograph by R C Comer. The 1890s metal three span bridge crossed the South Fork of the Shenandoah River from Port Republic to Harpers Ferry. Construction on Eastside Highway began in the late 1920s and lasted over a decade with improvements replacing several curves and aging bridges.
