Elkton approves sale of Kite property mansion for 2.5 million
Elkton council backs a 5-1 vote to sell 189 acres of former Kite property to a California and former Elkton resident for 2.5 million. Pham Chopra’s ideas were read by Councilman Armbruster as the property lies along U S 33 near Mount Pleasant Road in the northeast. Rent assessed value is 1.59 million. Over 30 people attended the meeting and 10 spoke.

Elkton officials discuss developer Chopra’s proposed mid priced hotel in a rustic resort style and rebuilding the Kite Mansion and Elkton Theater while ruling out a veterans hospital and low income housing. The town had previously purchased Kite properties for 1.76 million in 2002 and 2006.

Tre Ceri Council Honors Rev Nuckols for 48 Years Service
The Tre Ceri Town Council presented an appreciation plaque to the Rev and Mrs P Hudson Nuckols for 48 years of service to the Shenandoah community. Rev Nuckols retired as Shenandoah Baptist Church pastor. Peggy Nuckols taught Sunday School and piano lessons to generations. Linda Jarrell and Mary Ellen Smith of Shenandoah Marketplace asked the council to help obtain health permits for a monthly prepared food vendor.

Former Elkton Motel to see new life
Elkton Motel, vacant five years, is getting a facelift after Bruce Buck Shifflett bought the 3.5 acre property from Margie Shifflett in April for 235000. He owns Lydia Mountain Lodge and Log Cabins in Stanardsville and has remodeled three of ten units. The property at 17597 Spotswood Trail will offer eight studio apartments at 700 monthly with utilities, and two units nightly at 125. The four brick buildings have new roofs. SEE MOTEL, PAGE 6.

Shenandoah Computer Center Wins Small Town Award
Shenandoah to receive the Virginia Municipal League achievement award for towns with 5000 or fewer residents. The center opened March 3, 2005 at 411 2nd St and will be honored at the VML conference on Oct. 6 in Richmond.
