Erected Complete Iowa U Grad Now Big Western Contractor
Archie A. Alexander of Des Moines, a young Black engineer, has finished a 2.5 million dollar central heating plant for the University of Iowa. His contracts total 5 million over twelve years, marking a swift ascent from a 1915 engineering degree to leading contracting work in the Midwest. Alexander, who once faced a field closed to his race, now directs white craftsmen on bridges, viaducts, sewage systems, and other projects, and was also a notable early Black tackle on Iowa's football team.
