Walter Houston, a Negro attorney and funeral director, was notified Monday his membership in the Lincoln-Douglas Republican club is revoked for supporting Charles P. Taft in the GOP primary. He plans to appeal. The action follows weeks of debate among Negro Republican leaders over his endorsement of Taft and the Hamilton county Taft campaign. The Call outlines Africa Assembly topics and lists Protestant churches to attend.
The NAACP appeals to the United States Supreme Court seeking reversal of a lower court decision upholding school segregation in Virginia. The case, heard in Richmond Feb 22–29, argues that true equal education requires more than parity in facilities and curricula, and that segregation harms development of mind and character. Expert witnesses from psychology and education testified for the plaintiffs.
Dr. W E B DuBois, famed writer and NAACP founder, returns to New York after being barred from entering Canada at Toronto Airport. He planned to address the Canadian Peace Congress with Mrs DuBois, alongside Dr Endicott and Mme Blum. He was to discuss his arraignment on charges of failing to register as a foreign agent.
The National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U S A will host a June conference at Wittenberg College Springfield Ohio on Africa and Christianity amid changing racial political and social conditions in sub Saharan Africa. Delegates from 30 denominations seven African governments and entities from the United Nations and State Department are expected. At least 40 delegates will be Africans sent by churches governments and private groups.
For the fourth consecutive year American business through The Advertising Council will run a non sectarian public service push starting in November to stress the role of religious institutions and to urge attendance at one's church or synagogue. Led by Charles E Wilson this national laymen's committee represents three major faiths through 21 bodies with Union Carbide’s Robert W Boggs as volunteer coordinator.
The Board of Directors announced the Eleventh Annual Convention of The Frontiers of America to be held in Philadelphia from July 31 to August 2, 1952 with the Frontiers Club of Philadelphia as host. National officers met in Atlantic City on May 3 to plan. C. M. Cain of Atlantic City chaired the board, with Thomas H. Reid of Portsmouth and Nimrod B. Allen of Columbus as officers. Local planning co chairs are Lewis J. Carter Jr and J B Davidson of Philadelphia. Theme is New Horizon for Frontiersmen.
