Union Baptist Church marks its 89th anniversary and 25 years on Richmond and Mound Streets with a week of services. July 18 begins with an annual sermon on God Helping Us, followed by candle light prayers, daily programs, and a closing anniversary sermon Go Forward on Sunday at 11 am and an 8 pm service. Everyone is invited to attend.
Henry Lincoln Johnson, Georgia Republican committee man, testified that Negro voters faced brutal suppression and disappearances while Democrats spent more on votes this year. He said he received 9,000 dollars from the Lowden campaign chest and that blacks who voted Republican vanished or faced lynching.
In Durham North Carolina on July 10 a signed statement from Nello Teer Roach's employer claims Roach was innocent of the crime he was jailed for. Teer says Roach was at work Tuesday afternoon and was dragged from his cell by masked men who lynched him.
The outing offers amusements and music with rain none of it matters as old and new buildings are opened to the public. Visitors may roam from early morning until evening with plenty of eats and entertainment available.
Community event runs all day until 11 30 p m at Smith Street and 3066 Kerper Avenue with activities and attractions for families. Residents are invited to participate in games food stalls and entertainment throughout the day.
A Box Luncheon and Picnic under the auspices of the Young Women's Christian Association will be held at Burnet Woods on Saturday July 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Refreshments are free to all who register at the YWCA 704 W 8th St and obtain a ticket from the executive secretary. The event aims to unite the community in Christian love.

Mr. and Mrs. Jas H Toran celebrated their fifteenth wedding anniversary at their home 839 Barr Street on a Wednesday June 30. The decor featured ferns flowers Palme and electric lights. Guests wore formal evening attire. Mrs. Toran wore gray Georgette crepe with beads. Mrs Ethel Tate daughter of the couple appeared in Georgette with gold trim. Queen Ester Club served refreshments assisted by Mrs Tate's nephews Hart and Milton Dunston of Chillicothe Ohio.
Cleveland editor Harry Clay Smith who was barred from the Republican ballot for secretary of state received a mandamus writ from the Ohio Supreme Court Friday. The order directs Secretary of State Harvey C. Smith to certify him as a candidate or appear in court to show why not.
