Rosewood siege ends as Carrier repels mob attack
In Rosewood Florida a white mob of about 300 attacked Sylvester Carrier. Carrier and Negro defenders repelled the assault with aid from ex soldiers and local Black residents. Two white men Wilkinson and Andrews were killed. The mob withdrew as fighting continued and labor strife followed over pay. A white woman’s rape accusation is cited as fueling the labor unrest.
